Shell shocked and horrified

Max was taking a break, sitting on a rock, just looking at the idyllic scenery stretching out before him. The spray from the waterfall behind him was causing a half-rainbow to arc out into the rocky ravine that ran down the side of the mountain. Trees grew out of the sides of the ravine, clinging to the boulders like green-leaved barnacles. They, like the rocks they were attached to, were constantly bathed in spray from the waterfall, causing them to glitter in the golden afternoon light of the distant setting sun, just visible over a peak to his west.

There was no real reason for him to take a break. He didn't get tired, really. He was still an undead skeleton after all and impervious to hunger or fatigue. It felt good though, it soothed him. He'd been beating on that tortoise all day long with Trina intermittently harassing him for it and now it just felt like it was time for a rest.

“Hisssss,” the tortoise said, snapping in his general direction for the thousandth time.

“I'll get back to you in a minute,” Max said. “I'm trying to have a moment.”

“Hisssssssss,” the tortoise replied, narrowing its eyes angrily.

The pirates had told him the creatures were here, giant tortoises, light aligned, with delicious flesh, or so they said. Their skin was too tough and their damage resistance far too high to hurt them with weapons. This was why the pirates resorted to trickery, digging large pits to push the creatures into, then filling the pits with water. It was sneaky and underhanded, but effective. It reminded Max a little of his first serious victory against Tesh in the river. Sometimes you gotta do whatever it takes to survive or make turtle soup.

Max had done something similar except his hole was only big enough to keep the tortoise's legs hanging, making it immobile.

1 damage received.
